More than Bricks
The “More than Bricks” building campaign is so much more than a new roof. We know that a new roof isn’t the most exciting project we could ask you to help us with, but it’s a big project that will ensure we can keep this building and our presence in the city for the next generation!
Cohoes is so special to our hearts. You can see all of the great things that happen within these walls, and under this roof, in all of the ministries and outreach here at the United Church of Cohoes. We want to be sure, that our building in downtown, continues to serve the community around us for years to come.
The roof is currently made out of slate. Because the United Church of Cohoes is in the historical district of the city, the historical integreity of all buildings must be kept. Therefore, a slate-like roof, will cost a total of $80,000. We just can’t survive another winter without this replacement; leaks have caused pieces of plaster to drop from the walls and ceiling, even on our historical pipe organ (once a feature stop on the Organ Historical Society’s 50th Anniversary tour and Annual Meeting). So, this fall, the United Church of Cohoes will pursue a loan to cover the roof replacement. Graciously, we have already raised one third of the funds! A $9,000 matching grant from the New York Landmarks Conservancy Sacred Sites Grants, made this possible!! But we still have a long way to go.
We’ve had several people ask how they could make a donation to help this project – our online giving link is above! Simply enter the amount you’d like to give in the “More than Bricks – Roof” line, and feel free to share the web link with those who are also interested in giving their support.
We are so grateful to everyone who has helped us get this far! Consider partnering with us for our future!
