Christmas Through Their Eyes: King Herod
And in that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
But the angel said to them
“Do not be afraid; for see-I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.” I am here with Good News for you, which will bring great joy to all the people; this very night in David’s town of Bethlehem your Savior was born Christ the Lord!
Luke 2:8-11
Meditation: Although the shepherds were terribly afraid when the angel appeared to them, the angel’s Good News of the birth of the Christ drove away their fears. Today the Good News has the same power to renew the spirit of those who accept Jesus and seek to follow His teachings every day.
The fourth candle of Advent is the candle of peace. The prophet Isaiah called Christ “the Prince of Peace.” Christ brought peace when He came to us, and He will bring everlasting peace when He comes again.
We light the candle of peace to remind us that Jesus is the Prince of Peace and that through Him peace is found.
