The Fruit of Maturity: LOVE

Jesus says that ALL of the laws and commandments are summed up in this - Love the Lord your God with all your heart AND love your neighbor as yourself.

He goes on famously to define "neighbor" in an expansive way. And later, in his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus also tells everyone that they need to love their enemies.

In the gospel of John, after telling the disciples to "abide" in him, he says that the true disciples bear fruit. They are people who abide in God's love and then Jesus says "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has a greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends."

Why is loving others so hard? Why do we sometimes pretend like Jesus didn't *really* mean to love our neighbors?

Love is seeking the best for others, even at a personal cost. But Jesus says it's a mark of maturity. Honestly, it's hard (impossible?) to love well if we aren't emotionally and spiritually mature.
